Retail Location

I choose to look at the Walgreens at the intersection of Spring Garden and Aycock. The reason I choose this store is because it recently opened, and I wanted to come up with some possible retail strategies on why I think they choose this particular location.
Walgreens is considered a retail site location because it's already in it's location and all the factors of choosing a location were processed.
This particular Walgreens is across the street from CVS, which is their direct competition. What I've noticed with Walgreens' strategies is that they usually put a store near a CVS, to try and take CVS' customers.
Walgreens' is visible, it's at a busy intersection. There is plenty of traffic because it's at the entrance of campus, a lot of students would stop on their way or when they get out to pick up anything from a drink to printing pictures from last night. There is a large parking lot with two ways to get in.
The only problems I could foresee for this Walgreens' is that out of one exit you can't turn left on Spring Garden, going towards campus, because of a median. So some people might choose to go down less than a block and go to the CVS which has no problems turning left or right on Spring Garden. Also CVS was there a lot longer than that Walgreens' and in a area like this, some people have brand loyalty where Walgreens' might struggle in stealing those customers away. Walgreens' prices aren't necessarily that much different than CVS, so the only thing they have to worry about is brand loyalty.

Target Markets

When I took the VALS survey, it concluded that I was an innovator and second an experiencer. I think it was pretty accurate I don't like to follow others and I pretty much like to have my own unique style, no matter if it's on trend or not. In my opinion, it's more important for me to like what I'm wearing rather than someone else.
Our target person was for Libby Lu and I would say that their target market would be an experiencer. Their young and are conscious about what's "cool" right now. They release their energy in a social environment, and spend most of their money satisfying their social and entertainment needs.

Target Info

Target Corp. is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota and employs 366,000 people with 1,613 stores. Target was founded in 1902 by George Dayton in Minnesota under a different name of Dayton Company. In 1962, the first Target store opened. Target sells general merchandise and food products at a discounted price, and they also provide services like a pharmacy and photo center. For 2008, Target recorded revenues at around $63 million, a 6.5% increase from 2007's numbers. Currently, Gregg W. Steinhafel is the Chief Executive Officer and President of Target Corp. Target's motto is Expect More. Pay Less. and they plan on sticking with that. They have a strong market but the increasing competition of other stores like Wal-Mart is one weakness they will have to worry about.

Favorite Retailer

My favorite retailer is Target. What I love about Target is you can pretty much get whatever you need there. For it being a discount super center, Target has a wide selection of fashion forward clothing. They also offer designers to do special lines, exclusive to Target, every couple of weeks. And their great designers like Thakoon, Proenza Schouler and Patrick Robinson. I also love the fact that some Targets have Starbucks in their stores, which is literally the greatest thing they could do for coffee loving America. Target also has a great selection of groceries and even a frozen/refrigerated section; Some Super Targets' grocery section looks like a regular food store. And you really just can't beat their low prices, and they have the best markdowns! And with plenty of Targets poping up they are easy to get to from home, I mean there are 3 in Greensboro alone.
